The Night of Prayer

1. The Night of Prayer 19 Ramadān 1439 – Sunday June 3, 2018

2. The Month of Ramadān • In this special month, Allāh (swt) has placed so many great favours! • It is a month like no other month. Why? • The Holy Qur’an was revealed • In some Hadith it is said that the other holy books were also revealed in this month

3. The Night of Power • Among the nights of the Month of Ramadān, there is one very special night • The night is better than ____________ months! • Do you know how many years that is??

4. Preparing for LaylatulQadr • In preparing for this special night there are a few things we should all try to do: • Ghusl • Be in Wudu • Remember Allāh (swt) more and talk less of worldly things • Pray for the Imām of our time (may he come quickly!) • Be prepared for the A’amāl

5. The Death of Imam ‘Ali (a) • The 19th Night of Ramadān is considered one of the special nights of power, the nights of Laylatul Qadr. • However, it is also a very sad day for us, as it is the night in which Imam ‘Ali (a) was struck by ibn Muljim • It is a day when the world is grieving for the death of the Imam is very near.

6. The Morning of the 19th of Ramadān On the morning of the 19th of Ramadān 40AH, Imām ‘Ali (a) went towards Masjid-e-Kufā for Fajr prayers. Whilst he was in Sajdah of the first Rak’ah he was struck on the head with a poisonous sword by ibn Muljim. Imam was taken home by his sons where was in pain for two days. He passed away on the 21st of Ramadān

7. 1 A’amāl for LaylatulQadr • Two Rakā’at prayer • In each prayer recite Sura al-Hamd and then Sura al-Ikhlas 7 times. • After the prayer we recite 70x: أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إلَيْهِ I seek forgiveness of Allāh andI turn (repentant) to Him.

8. 2 • Let us open our Qur’an and recite: بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم In the Name of Allah,the most Kind, the most Merciful

9. اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ Allah bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.

10. اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّيْ اَسْئَلُكَ بِكِتاَبِكَ الْمُنْزَلِ O Allah, I ask You, for the sake of Your revealed Book

11. وَمَا فِيْهِ وَفِيْهِ اسْمُكَ الْأَكْبَرُ And what is in it,and in it is Your greatest name

12. وَاَسْمَآئُكَ الْحُسْنَى وَمَا يُخَافُ وَيُرْجٰى And (all) Your beautiful namesand what is feared and hoped for

13. أَنْ تَجْعَلَنِيْ مِنْ عُتَقَائِكَ مِنَ النَّارِ Make me amongst those whom You have saved from the fire. (ask for your Hajat)

14. 3 • Place the Quran on your head and say: اللَّهُمَّ بِحَقِّ هَذَا الْقُرْآنِ O Allah, for the sake of this Quran

15. وَبِحَقِّ مَنْ اَرْسَلْتَهُ بِه For the sake of the one You sent with it

16. وَبِحَقِّ كُلِّ مُؤْمِنٍ مَدَحْتَهُ فِيْهِ For the sake of every believer You have praised in it

17. وَبِحَقِّكَ عَلَيْهِمْ And for the sake of Your right over them

18. فَلَا أَحَدَ اَعْرَفُ بِحَقِّكَ مِنْكَ For none is more aware of Your right over them than Yourself

19. Repeat each of the following ten times: بِكَ يَا اللّهُ، For Your sake, O Allah

20. بِمُحَمّدٍ، For the sake of Muhammad (s)

21. بِعَلِيّ، For the sake of Ali (a)

22. بِفَاطِمَةَ، For the sake of Fatima (a)

23. بِالحَسَنِ، For the sake of Hasan (a)

24. بِالحُسَيْنِ، For the sake of Husayn (a)

25. بِعَلِيّ بْنِ الحُسَيْنِ، For the sake of ‘Ali son of Husayn (a)

26. بِمُحَمّدِ بْنِ عَلِيّ، For the sake of Muhammad son of ‘Ali (a)

27. بِجَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمّدٍ، For the sake of Ja’far son of Muhammad (a)

28. بِمُوسَى بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ، For the sake of Musa son of Ja’far (a)

29. بِعَلِيّ بْنِ مُوسَى، For the sake of ‘Ali son of Musa (a)

30. بِمُحَمّدِ بْنِ عَلِيّ، For the sake of Muhammad son of ‘Ali (a)

31. بِعَلِيّ بْنِ مُحَمّدٍ، For the sake of ‘Ali son of Muhammad (a)

32. بِالحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيّ، For the sake of Hasan son of ‘Ali (a)

33. بِالحُجّةِ، For the sake of Al-Hujjah, the Proof (a)

34. 4 • Let us recite the following Du’a together: بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم In the Name of Allah,the most Kind, the most Merciful

35. اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ Allah bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.

36. اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي امْسَيْتُ لَكَ عَبْداً دَاخِراً O Allah, I am, on this night, a very humble servant of Yours

37. لاَ امْلِكُ لِنَفْسِي نَفْعاً وَلاَ ضَرّاً I have no control over gains and losses for myself

38. وَلاَ اصْرِفُ عَنْهَا سُوءً Nor can I avert any evil from it

39. اشْهَدُ بِذٰلِكَ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِي I bear witness to that over myself

40. وَاعْتَرِفُ لَكَ بِضَعْفِ قُوَّتِي وَقِلَّةِ حِيلَتِي I acknowledge to You my weakness andmy lack of means.

41. فَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ So bless Muhammad and his family

42. وَانْجِزْ لِي مَا وَعَدْتَنِي And fulfil for me what You have promised me

43. وَجَمِيعَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَاتِ And to all the believers, men and women

44. مِنَ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ فِي هٰذِهِ ٱللَّيْلَةِ The promise of forgiveness on this night

45. وَاتْمِمْ عَلَيَّ مَا آتَيْتَنِي And complete for me what You have given me

46. فَإِنِّي عَبْدُكَ ٱلْمِسكِينُ ٱلْمُسْتَكِينُ Surely I am Your servant, poor, humble

47. ٱلضَّعِيفُ ٱلْفَقِيرُ ٱلْمَهِينُ Weak, needy and disgraced

48. اللَّهُمَّ لاَ تَجْعَلْنِي نَاسِياً لِذِكْرِكَ فِيمَا اوْلَيْتَنِي O Allah, do not make me forgetful ofYour remembrance in what You have entrusted me

49. وَلاَ غَافِلاً لإِحْسَانِكَ فِيمَا اعْطَيْتَنِي Nor heedless of Your favoursin what You have given me

50. وَلاَ آيِساً مِنْ إِجَابَتِكَ وَإِنْ اَبْطَاتْ عَنِّي Nor despairing of Your answereven if it was delayed for me.
