  1. SOLAR SYSTEM MADE BY IBRAHIM SIRAJ THE GREAT

  2. INTRODUCTION TO SOLAR SYSTEM • The name of our system comes from the old Latin word for the Sun: Sol • Because the Sun is the largest object in the system and all the other bodies orbit around it, it became known as the Solar system.

  3. SOLAR SYSTEM PLANETS There are eight (8) planets in our Solar System 1) Mercury 2) Venus 3) Earth 4) Mars 5) Jupiter 6) Saturn 7) Uranus 8) Neptune

  4. MERCURY • Mercury is the closest planet to the sun. It is a terrestrial planet and the second smallest planet after Pluto. • Mercury is about 4879 km in diameter, which makes it a little over a third as big as the Earth is across.

  5. VENUS • Venus is the second closest planet to the sun, and was named after the Roman goddess called Venus. • Venus is very close in size to earth and with a diameter of about 12,100 km or almost 95% of the size of the Earth.

  6. EARTH • Earth is the planet we live on. It is the only so far planet in the solar system with liquid water. It's also the only one known to have life. • Earth’s Diameter =12,742 • Earth’s Weight=5,973,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (nearly 6 trillion kg)

  7. MARS • Mars is the fourth planet from the sun. It is a terrestrial planet, because it is very similar to the Earth in terms of atmosphere and surface features. • Mars’s Diameter=6,804.9 • Mars’s Volume is around 15% that of the Earth.

  8. JUPITER • Jupiter is by far the largest planet within our solar system: two and a half times larger than all of the other planets put together. • Jupiter’s Diameter=142,984km

  9. SATURN • Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun in our Solar System • Saturn is 120,536 km or 9.449 Earths in diameter at the equator.

  10. URANUS • Uranus, the seventh planet from the sun, was discovered by William Herschel on March 13, 1781. • Uranus Diameter=51,118 km

  11. NEPTUNE • Neptune is very similar to Uranus, but it is slightly smaller in diameter and more massive. • Neptune’s Diameter=49,528km
