Two beggars are sitting on the pavement in Ireland. One is holding a large Cross and the other a large Star of David. Both are holding hats to collect contributions. As people walk by, they lift their noses at the guy holding the Star of David but drop money in the other guy’s hat. Soon one hat is nearly full whilst the other hat is empty. A priest watches and then approaches the men. He turns to the guy with the Star of David and says, "Don't you realize that this is a Christian country? You'll never get any contributions here holding a Star of David." The guy holding the Star of David then turns to the guy holding the Cross and says, Today’s Joke

What is Messianic Judaism? Messianic Judaism is a movement made up of Jewish and Gentile Believers in Yeshua (Jesus) Today’s Teaching
It’s the oldest and yet one of the newest movements in the faith. All of Yeshua’s Disciples and the First Church were Messianic Jews. Today’s Teaching
How do we differ from other Church denominations? We believe that the Old Testament has not been “done away with”. Today’s Teaching
Matthew 5:17,18 Yeshua said… Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Today’s Teaching
“But you’re under legalism brother. You’re under the curse of the Law!” Legalism is the belief that one can be Saved by works. That is the definition of the word. Today’s Teaching
We believe we are Saved by faith, and faith only. We don’t believe that anyone has EVER been Saved by works. We know this because the Scripture says… Today’s Teaching
speaking of Abraham in Gen 15 6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness. Today’s Teaching
It’s always been about the heart, no man has ever earned Salvation. The Curse of the Law is this… If you break God’s Law, you’ll be cursed. We read about the curse of sin and death all through the Bible. Today’s Teaching
The Law is not something bad. Paul said in Romans 7:12… the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and just and good" Today’s Teaching
Paul also says in Romans 7:22… For I delight in the law of God, in my inmost self. One may say, but Paul also says in that same chapter that “we are dead to the Law”. Today’s Teaching
He’s not saying we’re dead to the law meaning we don’t have to keep it any longer. He’s saying we’re dead to the curse of the Law through Jesus Christ. We are free from it’s penalty if we repent, turn away from our sins. Today’s Teaching
We’re all subject to Law. I’m grateful for law. I spent the last 2 years in India in a part where there is virtually no civil law. It’s chaos. Today’s Teaching
I’m grateful for the laws men have made here in the USA. I’m thankful for stoplights. How much more grateful should we be for God’s holy and just Laws? Today’s Teaching
What we do at Beit HaTorah is we keep G-d’s Holy Laws. Another thing we do differently is we take into consideration the Jewish way of thinking. For 2,000 years the Church has been thinking in Greek. Today’s Teaching
When you try to apply Greek thought to Hebraic ideals, it never comes out correct. One must take the Hebrew people, it’s culture and it’s language into consideration before trying to interpret Scripture. Today’s Teaching
I’ll give you an example… We all know the story of Yeshua in Mathew 8 21 And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. 22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead. Today’s Teaching
If one doesn’t understand the culture of the Jewish people of the First Century, this passage can be very confusing. Today’s Teaching
To someone from the west it sounds as if Yeshua is being kinda harsh on this disciple. I’ve heard many sermons on it and most try to paint a picture that Yeshua was simply saying “Put me first in all things” Today’s Teaching
And even though that makes a good sermon, it is not was Yeshua was saying in this particular passage. Today’s Teaching
In the time of the Second Temple (516 BC – 70 AD), the Jewish people used tombs carved out of stone in their burial. Just as Jesus was laid in a tomb, so were others after they died. This was known as the “first burial”. Today’s Teaching
Most people don’t realize that the bodies which were laid in the tomb were not laid there forever. The bodies were allowed to lay there for one year to allow for the flesh to rot away. Today’s Teaching
After one year, the family would enter the tomb, collect the bones, and place them in a box called an ossuary. This was known as the “second burial”. Today’s Teaching
Even though the Jews were doing this at that time, it was a very Pagan practice. Of course, Yeshua was against any forms of Paganism. Today’s Teaching
Yeshua here was not saying, “Don’t bury your Father”. That would be a direct violation of the commandment to “honor your father and mother”. Today’s Teaching
He was saying, “Don’t participate in this Pagan ritual”. Yeshua was also saying to this man, “Don’t take off an entire year to wait while the flesh of your father decays before you come and follow me. This is the true meaning of this passage Today’s Teaching
So you can see how understanding the culture of the Jewish people can really enlighten various passages in Scripture. Today’s Teaching
The way Messianics see it is like this… If you take the Jew and the Hebraic culture out of the Bible, you really don’t have much left. Today’s Teaching
So what were doing as a movement is trying to put the Jewishness of the Gospel back into the Bible which was taken out by many of the so called “Church Father’s” long ago. Today’s Teaching
Who are these Church Fathers? Most of them were men who hated Jews in general. How could that be? Well, here’s some of their quotes and then you tell me… Today’s Teaching
Let’s start with Martin Luther and work our way back in time. This is taken from his book, “OF The Jews And Their Lies” Today’s Teaching
I had made up my mind to write no more either about the Jews or against them. But since I learned that these miserable and accursed people do not cease to lure to themselves even us, that is, the Christians, I have published this little book, so that I might be found among those who opposed such poisonous activities of the Jews who warned the Christians to be on their guard against them. I would not have believed that a Christian could be duped by the Jews into taking their exile and wretchedness upon himself. However, the devil is the god of the world, and wherever God's word is absent he has an easy task, not only with the weak but also with the strong. May God help us. Amen. Today’s Teaching
