FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SCIENCE EDUCATION IN THE ASIA PACIFIC28-29 November 2007, Sofitel Central Plaza Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand • IAP Science Education Programme by Prof. Jorge Allende, Coordinator of Science Education Programme of IAP • Presentations on Science Education by 17 member countries • Discussion on: • i. main characteristics and objectives that can be pursued in an AASA/FASAS Regional Asia Pacific Program of Science Education. • ii. Define activities that the Regional Asia-Pacific Science Education Program will carry out during 2008. •  Funding for the program. • Election of a Regional Coordinator for the Science Education Program to oversee the implementation of the activities approved by the Council. • Decide time and place of the next meeting of the Council of Focal Points

FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SCIENCE EDUCATION 28-29 November 2007 • Objectives: • To promote participation and collaboration of Science National • Academies and Societies in the Asia Pacific region in science education activities • To generate regional program on science education in Asia and the Pacific • by AASA and FASAS • All the participants agreed to the necessity of faithful efforts to promote and • Improve science education globally against the current trend among students • of shunning science and science education in spite of the vital role of science and • technology innational development. • The Asia Pacific Region Science Education Program under the umbrella of • IAPScience Education Program is officially launched. • It was agreed that the program will focus its project on science education at • school level only.
