Job Descriptions • Costume designers are fashion professionals who develop wardrobes, footwear, accessories and other fashion apparels that will be used in theatre, film, and television. • They work closely with the directors, producers, as well as with the costume design team to ensure that the costumes are precisely based on what the story, drama, or script requires. • Costume designer professionals are primarily responsible for researching, designing, sewing, and drawing costumes that will be used in movie, theatre, and stage productions.
Work conditions. • Work conditions range depend on the employer. • Fashion designers employed by manufacturing establishments, wholesalers, or design firms generally work regular hours in well-lighted and comfortable settings. • Designers who freelance generally work on a contract, or job, basis and usually adapt to their client schedule. • Regardless of their work setting, all fashion designers occasionally work long hours to meet production deadlines or prepare for fashion shows.
Salary. • Entry-Level Costume Designer: $500/production • Experienced Costume Designer: $20,000/production • Top-Level Costume Designer: $150,000/production
Education. • 2-years Associate degree for the basics of costume designing. • 4-year bachelor’s degree for more advanced skills.

Our Opinion… • It could be a fun job, but you have to know what your doing before you try to get in the field of design. • It would be a good job but you have to have passion for doing this.
