Job Description • Manage a team of skilled personnel • Responsible for the design, creation, purchase and accessories of costumes for performing arts, motion pictures and television productions • Read scripts and research setting/period to ensure authenticity of costumes • Work with the director, lighting and scenic designers, make-up artists, and actors to establish the desired mood of the production and characters • Provide design sketches (can be by hand, Photoshop or CAD) • Depending on the production’s budget, other duties may include… • Taking actors’ measurements and arrange fittings • Drafting, sewing, dyeing/distressing fabrics • Repair costumes • Manage budget
Training & Qualifications • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in fashion or costume design • Comprehensive study of theatre • Knowledge of various periods from historical to contemporary • Understanding of color, fabric and garment construction
Personal Qualities • creative flair • good leadership skills • team member mentality • work well under pressure to meet deadlines • history buff • good communication skills • organized
Salary Range is anywhere from $500-$150,000/production Availability Dependent upon the entertainment and performing arts industry Location • Hollywood, CA • New York City, NY • Metropolitan areas • Local theatres
