  3. Šariš castle The exact period of buildingcastleis not known. Construction of a new castle began in the 13th century . The castle was built to protect the north-south trade route through the valley of the river Torysa. Since the beginning of its existenceservedastheroyal castle. It was the seat of kings at the time resided in Šariš. In 1660 exploded gun-powderstorage and damagedthe entireheartofcastle. In thefollowing years, it was only used for housing troops. The castle burned down in 1687 and was not renewed more. Nowadays the castle is popular place for walking forpeople ofPrešov.

  4. Brekov castle Thecastlewasbuilt in 13th century to protecttraderouteagainstTatars. In 15th centurywerestrengthenwalls and in shorttimeplayedimportant role in battle Matej Korvín vs. PolishkingKazimir IV.. In 1558 wascastledestroyed by Ferdinand Habsburg and in 1575 wasrepaired. But in 1644 rebelsdefinitely destroyedthecastle. Nowadaysthere are onlyruins.

  5. Castleof Spiš Castleof Spiš isoneofthebiggestcastles in Europe. There had beenliving humanfor 5000 years. Firstwrittenmentionofcastlecomesfrom 1209 about sellinggrounds. Thecastlewasbuilding in stagesfrom 10th to 13th century. In firsthalfof centurytheywerebuildingfasterbecauseMongolscame. Thiscastlewasone offewcastleswhichresistedMongol´sattacks in 1241. In secondhalfof 14th centurytheyaddedmiddle and downcastleandbuilt a new wallsalongthem.

  6. In 15th centurywasfollowingbuildingexpansion. In 1780 castleburnt. Local peoplestarteddeconstructionthecastlelikecheapbuildingmaterial. This destroyingstoppedafterSecondWorldWar. It has beenreconstuctedsince 1961. Since 1993 itbelongs to UNESCO .In 2008 australianartistbuiltceltic horsefromtravertin. Nowadaysthere are reconstructions and itisfavourite placefortourism.

In firsthalfof 14th centurywasdamagedduringHussiteswar. In 1553 burnt and massivereconstructionswithreneissanceelementsstarted. In 1772 castlecameintodisuse. Nowadaysthere are archeologisticresearch.

In 1312 wasdestroyedbut in 1410 Andrej Kappybuilt new complexofwallsbut in secondhalfof 16th wasupgradedforturkishoffensive. In 1709 František Rákocifiredcastle. In 1712 waspartlyrepairedbut in 1715 wasdestroyed definitelly.

Afterhis death In 1505 clanHorváthovciboughtthiscastle. In 18th centurylosthis militaryvalue so Paloczaysrebuiltit to residentalhouses. In 1568 castle definitelyburnt.

In 1704 František Rakocsi II. repaireddamaged partsofcastle. In 1711 imperialarmydestroyedcastleheaded by František Barkóci.
