  1. Kelly Bentley, Mladen Prelic Silva, Evan Specter LRC 320 - Betts Introduction to PowerPoint:For Educators

  2. Agenda • Why use technology in the classroom? • Tips before starting a PowerPoint presentation • Basic steps to designing a PowerPoint presentation • Types of Presentations • Conclusion and Sources

  3. Why? “When students are using technology as a tool or a support for communicating with others, they are in an active role rather than the passive role of recipient of information transmitted by a teacher, textbook, or broadcast. Technology use allows many more students to be actively thinking about information, making choices, and executing skills than is typical in teacher-led lessons.”

  4. Why? • Change in student/teacher roles • Increased motivation and self esteem • Technical skills • Accomplishment • Collaboration • Improved attention from audience http://www2.ed.gov/pubs/EdReformStudies/EdTech/effectsstudents.html

  9. Conclusion and Sources • We talked about how presentations are done and where they are used. We can use them in a parent meeting, in school or at work. PowerPoint presentations are used as a helping tool when we want to talk about something. They help us focus more on what the person is talking about. We must remember they are a helping tool so we are not supposed to write a lot of information and just read it. We must only put the main things to remember what we are talking about. http://www.online.tusc.k12.al.us/tutorials/pptclass/pptclass.htm http://blog.powerteacher.ca/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/ed5.gif http://www.online.tusc.k12.al.us/tutorials/pptclass/pptclass.htm http://www.edutopia.org/technology-integration-introduction http://www2.ed.gov/pubs/EdReformStudies/EdTech/effectsstudents.html
