Dean Dread, a disturbing figure in his somber suit and tie, directed the group to go to the cafetorium, a combination of cafeteria and auditorium. There the friends found other sixth graders who they already knew from elementary school. • Extra Credit: • Add an extra check to the Caught Ya! error if you got it right on your own. • Vocabulary • puerile(adj.) childishly foolish; immature or trivial • commence, commenced (v.) to begin; start • somber(adj.) dark and dull, as color, or as things in respect to color • Underline the compound sentence. • Circle the prefix that means “utterly, completely.” Disturb means utter or complete confusion or agitate. In this sentence, the students are utterly agitated or unsettled by the disturbing appearance of Dr. Dread. Notice that this is a different definition of the prefix, dis-, than we have seen before in the word disaster when it meant “away, without.” Passage 5 Errors: 32
