  2. What is an Adverb? • An adverb modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. • An adverb answers the questions how, where, when, why,how often, to what extent, and how much.

  3. Where to place an adverb. • An adverb that modifies an adjective or another adverb is placed before the word. • An adverb that modifies a verb can be placed after the verb, before the verb, or at the beginning of the sentence.

  4. Intensifiers • Intensifiers are adverbs that modify adjectives or other adverbs. • They are usually placed before the words they modify. • They usually answer the question to what extent.

  5. Word endings • Adverbs usually end in the letters -ly to adjectives. • Sometimes the base word changes when -ly is added.

  6. Some examples for you to solve • 1) The doors to the junior high school open (easy, easily). • 2) To win the World Series, a team must play (real, really) well. • 3) The valedictorian recited her speech (perfect, perfectly). • 4) Effective student body officers take their job (serious, seriously).
