  2. Do you have an image of God? Can you describe it? Can you name any people whose actions reflect for you this image of God?

  4. When Christians want to know the God who is present in our culture, they turn to the sacred Scriptures.

  5. Through Scripture, we hear stories that describe who God is; they reveal the true God to us.

  6. The Christian story about God starts with the Hebrew people and their experience of God.

  7. The book of Exodus 3:1-14 is the account of Moses at the burning bush.

  8. This story expresses the holiness of God-a burning bush that does not burn up; the warning to Moses not to come closer; Moses hiding his face; his fear of looking at God.

  9. God is named in this account as “The God of ancestors, the God of Abraham...,” “I am Who I am,” “ I am” Hebrew for YHWH

  10. The four consonants of the Holy Name-YHWH-have been replaced in our English text by “the Lord.”

  13. These are theoriginal Twelve Steps as published by Alcoholics Anonymous: We admitted we were powerless over alcohol – that our lives had become unmanageable. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him. Made a searching and fearless moral inventor of ourselves.

  14. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings. Made a list of all persons who had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

  15. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His Will for us and the power to carry that out. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
