Today’s Discussion Occasion for the Research User Feedback Methods Summary of Findings Recommended Designs
Occasion for the Research • Glutenfreely.com is a hub connecting users to medical professionals, manufacturers of gluten-free products, and other people interested in promoting a gluten-free lifestyle. • Beyond an online catalog and shopping functionality, the site also includes articles about wheat allergies, links to medical websites to learn more about the condition, electronic tools to aid in making wheat-free eating choices, and recipes for gluten-free cooking. • Despite good intentions the website suffers from poor information architecture and design choices that limit its ability to realize this mission to support those afflicted with gluten allergies or more serious ailments.
Occasion for the Research • Messy PRODUCTS page navigation • No Article Index • Suboptimal HOME page content Current State Key Questions How would users group and categorize products in terms meaningful to them? What kinds of non-product information would user like to see on the site? Which topics or subject matter should be features on the HOME page? Card Sort Free Listing User Research

Results: Free Listing Participants wanted to know if they were allergic and, if so, what they could eat Percentage of Responses
Results: Card Sort PRODUCT Category names remain largely unchanged • The participants generated a list of PRODUCT category names that, for the most part, reflected the same number and terminology seen in the existing navigation. • The old BREADS & MIXES category was deemed too broad should be split into two, separate categories: BREAD & BAKED GOODS and BAKING INGREDIENTS & MIXES. • The participants rarely mentioned the term MEALS or ENTREES; therefore, the category should be eliminated. • Participants did suggest a new category name, DAIRY SUBSTITUTES, to better reflect item therein such as coconut milk.
