  2. OBJECTIVE • PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ABLE TO: • IDENTIFY THE MAJOR CROP INSECTS THAT AFFECT THE ECONOMIC OUTCOME OF VARIOUS CROPS.

  3. INSECTS-FRIENDS OR FOES? • THERE ARE APPROXIMATELY 1 MILLION KNOWN INSECTS. • INSECTS REPRODUCE & MULTIPLY FASTER THAN ANY OTHER ANIMAL. • NEARLY EVERY PLANT OR FOOD PRODUCT IS EATEN BY SOME TYPE OF INSECT. • LOSSES ARE ESTIMATED AT MILLIONS OF DOLLARS.

  4. BENEFICIAL INSECTS • HONEYBEE: POLLINATES • LADY BEETLE: FEEDS ON OTHER INSECTS • SMALL WASPS (PARASITES): LAY EGGS ON HARMFUL INSECTS
