MISSION STATEMENT To ensure an environment where students feel safe to learn, employees feel safe to work, and the community is confident in the safety of the district.
POLICE AND SECURITY STAFFING 111 Police officers • 52 Police officers assigned to campuses • 38 Police assigned to 24 hour patrol • 10 Sergeants • 5 Detectives • 6 Police Administrators • 88 Security personnel • 10 Dispatchers
YAC OBJECTIVES • TO PROVIDE FULL-SERVICE YOUTH ACTION SERVICES TO STUDENTS AND STAFF • TO UTILIZE INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL RESOURCES TO AID STUDENTS • TO RECOGNIZE AND DETER DISRUPTIVE AND/OR ILLEGAL BEHAVIOR ON CAMPUS • TO WORK AS A TEAM WITH SCHOOL PERSONNEL TO PROVIDE THE HIGHEST QUALITY OF SERVICE TO OUR STAKEHOLDERS
PREVENTION STRATEGIES • Anti-gang presentations • Drug prevention presentations • Kids-n-Cops program • Law enforcement teaching students (LETS) program
INTERVENTION STRATEGIES • Students may receive community service for class C offenses in place of a citation. • Police and Security personnel utilize mediation techniques to solve differences between students that could ultimately land them in the judicial system. • Students convicted of a misdemeanor may be referred to the first offender program (FOP).
INTERVENTION STRATEGIES CON’T • Students and/or parents may referred to the district’s counselors and outside counseling services • Students that are not on their correct grade level may be referred to the district’s reconnection program
ENFORCEMENT STRATEGIES • Administrators have discretion on Class C offenses with the exception of assault. • Police and security personnel utilize prevention and intervention strategies prior to citing or taking students into custody. • Police officers have discretion to issue warning citations to students.
