Jesus meets some children and a rich young ruler Matthew 19:13-26 Mark 10:17
I. The special way Jesus treated children vs 13-15 (see Mk 10:13-16 & Luke 10:15)
II. The sincerity of the young ruler vs 16 (Mark 10:17) “And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life”?
III. The self satisfaction of the young ruler vs 20 “The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet”?
IV. The sadness of the young ruler vs 22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
V. A shocking claim by Jesus vs 24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
VI. The surprise of the disciples vs 25 He said what???? When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?
VII. A supreme answer by Jesus vs 26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
Jer 32:17 Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:
Final thoughts…..did Jesus condemn riches? James 2:5,5:4 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?
James 5:4 Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.
I Tim 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
No. He did not. But He condemns everything that gets in His way! What is getting in the way of God’s perfect will and you?
And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.
But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.
