Aghadir Agadir is known for three events that made history, Crisis of 1911; which lead to French occupation of Morocco, Earthquake of 1960, and the Agreement for of a Free Trade Zone between the Arabic Mediterranean Nations in 2004 In 1505 the Portuguese established a trading post named Santa Cruz do Cabo de Gué, under a governor. In 1541, the city came under Wattasid control and in 1572 a stronghold was built on the top of the hill overlooking the bay, the Kasbah. Aghadir became prosperous for two centuries. But in 1731, the town was completely destroyed by an earthquake.[ Aghadir is not a typical city of traditional Morocco, but it is a modern, busy and dynamic town.
