August 2, 2013 THE STAAR MODIFIED PROGRAM The USDE has informed states that assessments based on modified standards for students served by special education cannot be used for accountability purposes after the 2013–2014 school year. Therefore, all STAAR Modified assessments will be administered for the final time during the 2013–2014 assessment cycle. Further information regarding plans for the inclusion of this population of students in the general assessment program beginning with the 2014–2015 school year will be forthcoming.
STAAR: […]Dewhurst instructed the committee to review accommodations available to eligible students as a result of the elimination of the STAAR Modified exam pursuant to changes in federal accountability regulations.
STAAR A • What is known: It is a computer-based assessment, very similar in function to the STAAR L test, that will have “embedded” accommodations. • What is not known: There are a number of important details yet to be determined, including eligibility criteria, access features for students with sensory and motor impairments, and time limits.
Demonstration Features • Simplified language of some test questions • Simplified versions of individual words • Picture support for some individual words • Preview text (OA allowed) for reading passages • Math and Science formula support • Clarification of charts and graphs • Computer-based oral administration • other tools including highlighters, rulers, graph paper, contrast options, and colored backgrounds.
