  8. Tenant [Occupant] [Resident] [person who rents a place to live] Landlord Tenants

  9. Residence [Dwelling] [a place someone lives] Habitat: natural place of living (usually used to describe where animals live)

  10. Possession =to own (or to have control of) Example: The apartment is in my possession. Example: I am responsible for my dwelling during my time of possession.

  11. Occupation [Habitation] Occupy = to be someplace Example: My time of habitation in my new apartment is from January 2013 to January 2014. Not occupying Occupying

  13. Rent vs. Lease (verbs) Similarities Rent = pay to use, but not own. Lease = pay to use, but not own. Differences Rent = usually short term (month to month) Lease = usually long term (entire year)

  14. Sublease [sublet] When you lease from someone who leases from someone. Landlord leaser Person who subleases

  15. Why sublease? If you lease an apartment for 12 months, but only need to live there for 8 months, you are still required to pay for all 12 months by your lease. If someone subleases from you for the other 8 months, then you only have to pay for 8 months.

  16. Squatting When you illegally live somewhere. Landlord squatter (Not looking) (looking)

  17. Oral Agreement Oral = anything to do with your mouth (or talking) You’ll own this apartment from January 2013 to January 2014 (oral agreements are not the best, written agreements are better.)

  45. Mold Mold causes respiratory [breathing] problems

  47. Asbestos Asbestos is a material that can be present in a lot of things. Asbestos can cause lung cancer.
