PHLe-B at PAN Heather Calcaterra , Padraig Lysandrou, Lebo Molefe, and Ben Shafer NSF and JINA sent PHLe-B to PAN 2013 at MSU where they met MoNA LISA at the NSCL. 1 2 3 O-Scope Waveforms SpecTcl Cosmic Rays We gathered data from LISA detector signals using an oscilloscope. We repeated the process more accurately with the SpecTcl program. We graphed the angular distribution of muons entering the detector. MoNA/LISA – Plastic scintillator tubes that generate photons that are detected by photo-multiplier tubes. These arrays of plastic bars detect cosmic rays and neutrons (as well as other particles passing through). We specifically analyzed electric signals showing the pass of a neutron source. Based on data about charge and time, we estimated source position and speeds. To efficiently view data collected by the MoNA and LISA arrays, we used SpecTcl, a computer application designed to view graphical compilations of information sets. The main parameters of SpectTcl are timeand charge, similar to the oscilloscope. The first signal detected is used as the trigger to start recording for a few nanoseconds. Then the channel is closed. Here we graphed normalized counts of muons and compared them to a cosine function. Using the sophisticated electronics and computing attached to the detectors allows us to play with and learn from accurate results and data.
