When we believe we are unable to handle the stresses and challenging circumstances of daily life, stress and anxiety develop. The availability of emotional resources is just a matter of supply and demand. We feel obligated to respond to all pressures and expectations, regardless of whether the perceived stressor is true or false. When we are under pressure, the first thing we should consider is whether or not we need to respond- Derek Candelore.
How is stress reduced by meditation? • It allows us the room to distinguish between legitimate and invalid demands on our time, attention, and emotions. Consider how much different our experiences of stress and anxiety would be if we could tell them apart. When we don't have this room in our lives and think, we feel pressure. When meditation provides us with the time and space we need to order our priorities, we feel relieved. The demand side component of stress management is this.
