  1. Effects of Meditation on Stress Meditation and stress management are linked. When you meditate you either focus on your breath or chant a mantra. Either way, you try to banish all negative thoughts from your mind and focus on one single aspect, your breath or the chant – both are associated with positivity. Also, when you meditate you sit in a relaxed position, with silence all around. This has a calming effect on your brain. Breathing exercises to reduce stress 1.Deep Breathing – lie down on your back or sit comfortably. Breathe in through your nose to fill your abdomen with air. Place one hand on your belly, and one chest. You can feel the abdomen rise and feel it go down as you breathe out of your lips. 2.Focused breathing – the focus is on your breath. Close your eyes if it helps. Slowly breathe in, and then breathe out slowly. Concentrate on your inhalation; feel the sense of calmness that sets in. 3.Progressive Muscle Relaxation – a group of muscles is tensed as you breathe in. When you breathe out, you let go of the tension. Doing so, helps your mind and body relax. Try with your feet first and then your calf muscles. You can also try this with muscle groups at your belly, chest, arms, shoulders, face, and so on.
