Tagai student breaks into Cairns construction industry Tagai State College student Nathan Pabai has just started a school based apprenticeship with Stratfield Painters in Cairns.Nathan a Year 11 student from Boigu Island said “I have always wanted to work in the construction industry and last year I was with Stratfield painters for work experience.”Mr Andy Dale the Senior Schooling Support officer from Tagai Secondary said “Nathan made a positive impression on his employer last year and we have been able to convert this into an extremely positive outcome for both the employer and the students.”Each year the Year 10 students travel to Cairns to complete a week of industry placement. This allows students an opportunity to experience employment opportunities unavailable in the Torres Strait whilst showcasing their skills to Cairns based employers.Head of Campus Mr Craig Whittred said “This is a great example of the level of support Tagai State College offers its students. By thinking outside the box and problem solving a solution we have been able to provide Nathan with an awesome opportunity.
