  3. Freedom to Sail User Guide Welcome to the introduction to sailing package “Freedom To Sail”. CONTENTS • What is in the package? • What technical requirements are there to operate the package? • How do I operate it as a download from the website? • How do I operate it as a CD/DVD package? • Troubleshooting

What is in the package? • This is “Freedom to Sail”, an interactive program to help you grasp the basics of sailing up to the standard of the RYA ‘Day Skipper’ qualification. • It complements practical experience on the water: it does NOT replace the practical work required for the qualification. • A number of video and audio elements are included to aid explanation and demonstration

What technical requirements are there to operate the package? • PC XP SP3, Vista or Windows 7, or MAC OSX and above • Flash Player 8 and above • Windows Media Player • 2Gb RAM (minimum 1Gb RAM) • DVD drive if running the disc version • Internet browser such as Internet Explorer. Not all functions may operate in other browsers • Speakers to access the audio elements of this package

  6. How do I operate it as a download from the website? • Load your browser as usual • Go to http://www.freedomtosail.org.uk and choose ‘training’ then ‘Day Skipper’. • Please ensure pop-ups are enabled in your browser for this site

  7. Troubleshooting • The site doesn’t load when I type the URL • Check that you are connected to the Internet • Check that you are typing the address accurately • Try again after a couple of hours in case the site is down for maintenance • I cannot hear the sound • Check the volume on your speakers and workstation • Check that your speakers are connected • Check that your computer has no security warnings that the interactivity on the package has been disabled
