The Design of ASnetand the support to Grid Yu-lin CHANG @ Academia Sinica International Symposium on Grid Computing March 29, 2007
Introduction on ASnet • ASnet – Academic Services Network • Provides high-performance and high-availability network connectivity for research and education, as well as generic Internet activities • Focuses on International links and IX (TaipeiGigaPoP). • Closely collaborates with domestic RENs, such as TAnet and TWAREN. • As evolution of technologies, network matrix is now part of Grid infrastructure to bring pieces to be one.

def path R1 ASnet Partner R2 tag bgp routes with 9264:61200 path changes Highlighted Service for Grid • Partner-controlled routing • Kind of BGP tagging mechanism • 9264:61100 request ASnet *LESS* prefers this route • 9264:61200 request ASnet *MORE* prefers this route • example
Highlighted Service for Grid • Private Circuit • Utilizing MPLS Layer-2 technique • Separated from other customers • Keep privacy • Prevent routing information influences • Protected by the ASnet MPLS platform • Redundancy by internal Layer-3 multi-path • Recovery by Fast-ReRoute (FRR) • Economics on device • Grid sites use pure Ethernet IP devices for connecting to ASnet
