Artur M. Mandlate Head of National Solar Radiation Centre in Mozambique Degree in Meteorology by UEM-Mozambique Working In Radiation measurement since 2002 National Institute of Meteorology- Mozambique National Solar Radiation Maputo Mozambique
National Institute of Meteorology- Mozambique • Plan, install and ensure operation of weather stations; • Plan, install and ensure operation of monitoring stations of air quality, in collaboration with the government agency responsible for managing the environment; • Promote achievement of observations on aircraft and ships and plan to exchange their communications with the international meteorological community; • Promote the acquisition, measurement, calibration, construction and repair of meteorological instruments; • Register, collect, archive, process and publish the results of observations;
Cont. • Promote and ensure the functioning of the Centers for Analysis and Forecast for specific and general; • Perform studies and research in meteorology and climatology; • Participate in environmental impact studies involving atmospheric branch of the climate system, in coordination with the governmental entity responsible for managing the environment; • Provide technical support for studies in meteorology made by other Institutions; • Collaborate in the teaching of meteorology in the hands of other Institutions; • Promote the application of standards and terminology accordance with the World Meteorological Organization.
National Solar Radiation centre Main Activities • Measurement of Global and Diffuse Radiation using a CM6B and CM11 Kipp & Zonen Pyranometers. • Calibration of pyranometers with a kipp & Zonen Indoor calibration Facilities. • Measurement of sunshine duration using a Campbell Scientific sunshine duration Recorder By Artur Mandlate
Type of measured radiation • Global radiation (by CM11 and CM6B) • Diffuse Radiation (Shudow Ring w/ CM6B) • Direct Radiation CH1 and (indirectly G=Dif+Dhz) • UV type-C (Radiometers) • Sunshine Duration (Sunshine Recorders) By Artur Mandlate

Data storage By Artur Mandlate
Data storage (QC) • How we fill the missed datas in the models of storage? • To complete missing data we use Angstrom equation, which gives us the total of global radiation as a function of insolation. • At the end we send data to WRDC-Russia By Artur Mandlate

Calibrations of instruments • Mozambique has a table of indoor calibration of Kipp & Zonen for pyranometers. • Periodically we calibrate our pyranometers (CM6B and CM11) • We are open to help other centers in the region that does not have a table of calibration to calibrate their instruments. By Artur Mandlate
Challenge of National Radiation Centre • Training of technicians engaged in the national solar radiation and in all stations • Maintenance of equipment for measuring and collecting radiation • Change the method of data storage (paper to digital) • Measure in all stations of the national network of radiation parameters.
