RA V Significant Achievements Adoption of WMO SP to develop a new RA V – SOP 2012-2015 2.4.24 - 27 • Development (Refinement – Adoption – Endorsement – Approval) of RA V Strategic Operation Plan (SOP) 2012-2015 • April 2011: Refinement of draft SOP (general description – regional Key Outcomes– regional Key Performance Indicator) • May 2011: Adoptionby the President (side meeting during Cg-XVI, 2011) • Oct/ Nov 2011: Further refinement of SOP at Regional Seminar • Nov 2011: Final Approval by President 5

Assistance provided by Members and the Sec-Gento support RSMC Nadi-TCC operational activities, including (Human Resources Development) • Implementation of the pilot phase of the Severe Weather Forecasting and Disaster Risk Reduction Demonstration Project (SWFDDP), a regional subproject of SWFDP in RA V, with operational support from RSMC Wellington 8

Implementation of the VCP coordinated project : Supported by the USA, for the provision of Low Rate User Station (LRUSs) SIDS haveaccess to Met. Satellite images in Low-Rate Information Transmission (LRIT) format 7. Assistance to several Pacific SIDS/LDCs : for the development of NMS strategic development plans and legal frameworks 10

Partnerships with UN and regional organizations : ASEAN, UNESCAP, SPREP, SOPAC/Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and UNDP: • The implementation of QMS in the Pacific Islands Countries (PICs) NMSs and raising the profile of meteorology and PICs NMSs among national and regional governments with SPREP • The implementation of the Pacific-HYCOS project • Establishment of Flood Early Warning Systems with SOPAC/SPC 11

RA V Specific challenges and needs 2012-2015 : CG-XVI/ DOC 2.4 2.4.24 - 27 a) • Mobilizing and securing resources for the implementation of RA V SOP 2012-2015 • Integration of RA V SOP vs sub regional and national plans • Streamliningthem with the GFCS • HRD for NMHSs, ex: Technical maintenance experts • Establishment of RCCs to implement GFCS • Establishment of the new Reg.HydrologyCenter for RA V and the Regional Training Center for Tropical Meteorology • Training on Satellite Data Analysis, supported by Indonesia 13

Specific challenges and needs… CG-XVI/ DOC 2.4 2.4.24 - 27 f) Establishment of QMS for aviation services for all RA V NMHSs g) Full operation and extension SWFDDP coverage & the-implementation of a Storm Surge Watch Scheme in the Region h) Strengthening the capabilities of RA V – NMHSs to accesssophisticated products and Capacity Building on climate modeling 14

  15. Specific challenges and needs… CG-XVI/ DOC 2.4 2.4.24 - 27 • i) Further collaboration with SPREP : • Co-organizing biennial meetings of Regional Met. Services Directors (RMSD), the newly formed Pacific Met. Council (PMC), and • Establishment of a Regional Pacific Desk for Pacific NMSs j) The development and implementation of the South-East Asian (SEA)-HYCOS project 15
