International Early Warning Programme (IEWP) 5 focuses for action (as defined during EWC-II): • Integration of early warning into relevant development policies and programmes; • Improvement of data collection, facilitating access to relevant data and forecasting; • Enhancement of early warning capacities; • Development of people-centred warning systems; • Sustain the early warning dialogue in the future
IEWP Global Coordination Mechanism • Integrated planning among agencies for development of end-to-end national and regional EWS projects; • Global capacity assessment and reporting; • Improved knowledge sharing; • Advocacy and awareness campaigns on benefits of EWS targeted at ministerial level and promotion of EWS as a climate change adaptation tool; • Coordinated resource mobilization.
Link with ISDR System • The IEWP will coordinate with ISDR mechanisms: • Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) • Regional platforms and consultation processes • Co-chairing (2 agencies members of the ISDR System) will rotate with GPDRR • ISDR and PPEW Secretariats will facilitate: • face-to-face and virtual meetings • preparation of documentation • advocacy and promotional activities • fund raising
