  2. What Is Radon? Radon is a colorless, odorless gas that is emitted naturally from soil. Released into fresh air it poses no threat, but when it leaks into enclosed spaces then it can lead to severe health problems – in the worst case scenario, lung cancer. 20,000 Americans die each year from lung cancer caused by radon poisoning.

  3. Radon Mitigation Radon mitigation can help protect you in the home so that your risk of lung cancer is greatly lowered.

  4. There are a number of testing kits available, such as: • Charcoal Detector • Alpha Track Detectors

  5. Charcoal Detector The simplest and most common way to test for radon is with a charcoal liquid scintillation detector. This is because charcoal absorbs radon (and its by-products), so after exposure for a certain period of time can then be examined to determine radon levels.

  6. Alpha Track Detectors These are strips of polycarbonate plastic film that are left out in areas of suspected radon contamination. Contact with radon particles is etched into the film, and when it is developed, the amount of radon that has come into contact with the film can be accurately measured and assessed as to whether it poses a danger.

  7. Remember: Radon detecting testers themselves do not pose health risks. Read more about Radon Mitigation System @ Radonreport.com
