Motivation • The medical mistakes would happen in each hospital, i.e., mismatch, over-dosage, or drug-errors, and the factors causing the mistake are different from one to one.
Objective • Reducing medical error is the primary goal to enhance patient safety.
915MHZ Approach • System Development • On the doubts and worries about patient’s health problem, from the electromagnetic wave passive 915 MHZ EIRP is lower than 500mW than Wireless, blue tooth, etc.

Introduction • Australia Wilson(1995) roughly divided the medical mistakes into two type • Errors of omission • Errors of commission • Albert Wu(1991) made a questionnaire to 254 internists in American hospital • 45% of the doctor have experiences in making seriously medical mistake. • 29% of these mistakes are the medicine mistakes.
Introduction • Bedell (1991)indicated that taking the wrong medicine is one of the main reasons causing the unexpected death of the patient. • Because of the numerous inpatients and limited nurses to care them, the drug mistake such as wrong dosage, missing or passing feeding time, giving the drug to the wrong patient and so on, occurs so often.
Introduction • Two mechanism are used to facility the matching between the drug and patients • The patients hangs a ring on the wrist upon which there is a bar code for identification. • The parcel of drug are printed with a bar code for description. • The bar code has some shortcomings • It is subject to damage and covering. • It contains fixed and limited information.
Introduction • RFID can provide a direct and continuing recognition, including the identification, position, and trace of patient, drug or medical utilities. • Frank Kuo et. al.(2004) indicated that the application of RFID to the medicine can be divided into many categories, including the patient identification, the avoidance of wrong usage of drugs, the warehouse management of medicine objects and the prevention of the fake drugs.
Conclusions • The system can reduce the cost and increase the efficiency in collecting data in the front end of the traditional MIS. • Through the introduction of RFID into MIS, the drug safety of inpatient nursing healthcare can improve.
