New Training Hypothesis – development: • Identify Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes (KSA) necessary for pilots to operate safely, efficiently and effectively • Quantify observable means by which to assess the demonstrations of KSA • Conduct a safety threat analysis {…} • Determine priorities {…} for training and checking in each flight phase • Based on a review of what should be trained, determine best methodologies for the efficient delivery of pilot KSA • (ITQI Report Spring 09)
Conclusions If we fail to make a substantial change to the philosophy of airline pilot training, we will face an increasing gap between training and reality. It is time to create an effective bridge between safety data and the development of training solutions. At the same time, we must embed robust methodologies for the handling of real events and the development of key pilot skills, both technical and non-technical, into those training solutions. (ITQI Report Spring 09)
Conclusion • Coherent, operationally-focussed • Does require investment • Probably already off course • Best practice Next JAA TO ATQP Workshop 23-24 Jun 2010
