Biblical Basis for Associations • Jesus provided the basis for the local church Matthew 16:15-19; 18:15-20 • The New Testament clearly shows the first century commitment to the local church • Cooperation between churches found in Acts 11:1-8 as Peter seeks to evangelize Gentiles • Acts 11: 19-26 shows coop. missions to Greeks • Acts 11:27-30 shows Antioch church sending ministry aid to churches of Judea • Acts 15 shows Jerusalem Council to resolve doctrinal conflict between Jewish and Greek believers

  3. Historical basis • 2007 is the 300th ann. Of Assoc. in U.S. • Penn. Bapt. Assoc. was the first in U.S. • Associations are doctrinally based fellowships of churches on mission Associations are self-governing bodies created by the churches not by the denomination. • Autonomy is balanced with the need for cooperation and interdependance • The challenge is relevance

  4. ~MBA founded in 1855 ~ 108 churches and missions including Native American, Laotian, Cambodian, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, ~ Population of 414,000 ~ 51% “unclaimed” by any congregation…LOST!

  6. Executive Director of Missions • Serves as Associational Missionary • Leads (not drives) to maintain relevance • Creates a strategic plan to reach Mobile for Jesus Christ • Manages the office, staff, and budget • Ministers to pastors and congregations

Biblical Prayer • 1 Tim 2:1-4 • Foundational to everything we do, Zach 4:6 • Associational Prayer Coordinator • Enlist and train church prayer coordinators • Prayer events include Prayer Walking, Community Lighthouses of prayer, Pastors prayer networks, Shield-a-badge, Affinity prayer groups, NAMB/IMB weeks of prayer, Wed. night prayer, ongoing schools of prayer

Evangelistic Ministry • Luke 4:18-19 • Evangelism Committee challenge to pray for and share Jesus with every person in Mobile County by 2012 • Encouraging each church to have an evangelistic ministry committee • Mission Service Corp Evangelistic Ministry Coordinator: Dr. Dave Hudson • Events include block parties, door-to-door, special events, ongoing schools of evangelism

  10. A. Camp Whispering Pines www.campwhisperingpines.com Responsible for providing year round evangelistic ministry at our Citronelle camp 180 beds, lake, dining hall, paint ball, recreational ball fields, 286 decisions in 2006 in spite of ongoing Katrina repairs

  14. International Ministries www.internatministries.org Responsible for providing evangelistic ministry to seafarers, internationals, and ethnic congregations in Mobile County

Language School (ESL Program) Multiple locations, over 165 students from 59 language groups • International Ministries Center • Seaport Ministry to seafarers had 185 saved and 6000 contacts • “Walk for International Missions” Semi-annual Event (06 over 330 walkers from 49 churches) • Ministry to Ethnic Congregations

  19. Church Planting • Goal for every MBA church to be a cosponsor • If every church had 1,250 people we would be a churched county • Ch. P. committee w/ comprehensive plan for 13 needed churches by area and ethnicity • Enlisting coalitions of churches to help sponsor at least one new work each year, provide supervision, facilities, and salary for church planter/pastor Finding and recommending the purchase of property for future needs Praying for an MSC or volunteer coordinator

  21. We thank you and your church for your financial support of the ministries of the Mobile Baptist Association. We need your ongoing support through increasing the church budget line and through special associational offerings. We need volunteers to serve in the office and as MSC missionaries
