Please dispose of it properly! • 1) Take out your study guide, notes, and pick up one of the blue papers from the front shelf. • 2) Find the words “natural resource” and “renewable” on your study guide and complete the following information for each word. • Find the definition using a glossary. • Complete the rest of the entry like you have before. • Where should your backpack be?

  7. Social Studies Objective –We will describe how movement affects ourgeography, and identifysome of the natural resources of Utah. Behavior Objective – Work Ethic: We will work steadily on our maps to get as much done as possible today.   8. Note Taking • Copy this information onto a piece of lined paper. • As we go through the slides take notes on each topic in its box. • Beginning note takers copy what is on the screen; Advanced note takers take what they read, hear, and see and put it in their own words.

Movement The movement of people, the import and export of goods, and ideas have all played major roles in shaping our world.  People everywhere interact.  They travel from place to place and they communicate. We interact with each other through travel, trade, information flows (E-Mail) and political events. Not only do humans and goods move but ideas move also. *What is an example of an idea that moves?  How would our lives change if our movement options changed?  What would happen if we traveled by camel or horse?  How do we move from place to place?  How do we actually get food?

  10. Movement of People • People have been moving from place to place since our ancestors first inhabited this planet. • People move to make their lives better. • Examples: • Why did people move in the past? • Why do people move today?

Movement of Goods • People need lots of things to survive. • If your home doesn’t have all the resources you need or want, what can you do? • People trade goods to have better, easier lives. • Examples: • What kinds of goods do we import (bring to) Cache Valley? • What kinds of goods do we export (send away) from Cache Valley?

Movement of Ideas • People teach each other new ideas and how to do things. • When people travel to new places they learn things and teach people things. • Ideas like farming, religion, and technology have changed the way people live all over the planet! • Examples: • How do you know what to wear to school? • Why can we eat food from far away cultures like Japan, Mexico, and Italy?

  16. NaturalResources • Utah transports (moves) lots of different natural resources. • We will use it to locate and label different natural resources around the state. • We will work together in class on this and what we don’t finish is homework.

  19. Homework • Finish the rest of the map in Advisory today or tonight. • The map should only take about 20 minutes total to finish (if that) if you stay on task.
