Ecoinformatics technical working group Ecoterm key achievments • Registry of knowledge organisation systems (KOS) summarising the terminology sources as presented and discussed in the Ecoterm group • To be realised and hosted by FAO with support of USGS
Ecoinformatics technical working group • Semantic technology research: • EcoSemantics proposal • Submitted to DG Infsoc FP7 call 1 • Focus on general semantic issues AquaSemantics proposal • Under discussion • Focus on water applications
Ecoinformatics technical working group • XMDR research project • Advance design • Progress standards • Enhance prototype • Increase complexity of content • Demonstrate capabilities
Ecoinformatics technical working group • Arrangements around GEMET translation • CEDARE will proceed with the Arabic translation Some MoU incorp. Horizon 2020 might be useful • Wuhan University – jointly with SEPA – will proceed with a Chinese version Supportive letters from USEPA and EEA will be provided
Ecoinformatics technical working group Work on a environmental vocabulary reference system (GEMET as a starting point) • Set-up of an interest group addressing: • Practical cooperation proposal: • GEMET as the reference vocabulary for INSPIRE - JRC • Develop a management mechanism (organisation/update ...) - All • Develop ways to add new content and services (software) - All • Use of GEMET in search in discovery • Establish relationship with ETSS - USEPA • Possibly conduct a user/usage study - USGS/NBII with EEA
Ecoinformatics technical working group • Research related proposals: • Develop GEMET structure towards an ontology • (Make it more computable) (Wuhan University) • Usage as a basis for semantic computing (LBL, Wuhan University) • Linking up with XMDR activities (LBL) • Exploring the use of the reference system for data administration (LBL) • Using this reference system to connect data in distributed information system (CEH, others)
