Adult and Community Structure update • Curriculum Director for Adult and Community Learning – Sandra Burnhill – responsible for the development of the strategy. • Includes all adult provision delivered in the community and in the college (classroom based). This includes Adult Safeguarded Learning and Adult Skills Budget. • Diana Branston is Curriculum Director for Adult Employer Based Provision.

4. Adult Skills provision • August 2011 there were changes to learner eligibility - Fully funded provision now available to learners on inactive benefits who self certify that they are unemployed and the course will provide the skills to help them find work. Learners must sign a declaration.

5. Adult Skills provision • College is currently offering through the Adult Skills budget: • JCP referrals programme • Vocational options • Motor Vehicle • Construction • Health and Social Care • Hospitality • Security • ESOL • Basic Skills

6. Adult Skills Budget • ESOL provision – offering a mixture of delivery models from beginner to level 2 • Basic Skills – Literacy and Numeracy from E1 to L2. This is free, part time provision offered predominately on the main site. • LLDD – Adult Network - part time provision at the college – 19 – 24 year old. • Vocational areas – currently reviewing the pathways to learning with a view to more in year January starts at Level 1.

7. Adult Safeguarded Learning • Management team • Diane Liddle – Curriculum Team Leader - Adult Community Learning. • 3 Community Education Co-ordinators • North • South • Valleys • The co-ordinators will have clear targets numbers on all aspects of Adult Safeguarded Learning and First Steps – PCDL, Family Literacy, Language and Numeracy, Wider Family Learning

8. Adult Safeguarded Learning • SFA June 2010 - defines a working description of Adult Safeguarded Learning as “learning for personal fulfilment, leisure, family learning and community development” • The college offers provision across all areas of the ASL budget. • Leisure Learning (higher cost - pink) • Build your skills (lower cost - yellow) taster courses leading to progression routes. • Have a go (free in community settings - blue) engagement courses

9. Curriculum model for 2011/12 • PCDL courses to be run as taster courses with vocational curriculum teams identifying and offering suitable progression routes by running QCF accredited Awards/Certificates at level 1 with the aim of progressing learners to move onto a level 2 course from September.

10. Next steps • Marketing campaign to be launched with a mail drop to all households in Kirklees on the 2nd January. This will include all Adult Skills provision and PCDL. • Work closely with providers to ensure that we meet the needs of the community and to provide clear progression routes into learning.
