VUmc Long Term Cognitive Outcome and Quality of Life in Meningioma Patients after Neurosurgery with or without Radiotherapy • Results • Meningioma patients performed worse in 15 out of 20 tasks (p<0.01), and in 5 out of 6 cognitive domains (Figure A), • 38 patients (43%) had major impairment (> 1.5 SD deviation from healthy controls) in executive functioning (p<0.001), • Not correlated with: Visual or motor deficits, tumor size, tumor volume, or adjuvant radiotherapy (Figure B), • Correlated with AED use (but not with seizure control) (Figure C) • Lower quality of life scores are associated with poorer cognitive functions, i.e. with impaired executive functioning (Table) Purpose:Evaluation of long term cognitive outcome and quality of life (QoL) at least one year after neuro-surgery (SU) radiotherapy (RT). * * * *p<0.01 * * • Patients and Methods: • 89 WHO grade I meningioma patients* • >1 year after surgery alone (n=67) or • surgery plus adjuvant radiotherapy (n=22):conformal EBRT 54Gy in 30 fractions • 89 controls, matched for age, sex, education • Male : Female = 23 (26%) : 66 (74%) • Mean age: 58.6 years • Anti-epileptic drugs (AED): 23 (26%) • Seizure control: 57 (64%) • Cognitive test battery: 20 tests covering 6 cognitive domains, • Quality of life (SF 36): 36 items covering 8 QoL domains • Statistics: • Mean Z-score = measure for deviation • Students's t-test; multivariate stepwise linear regression.
