TO ILLUSTRATE AND IMPLEMENT INITIAL RANGING & Transfer operational parameters PHASEs OF THE CABLE MODEM Presented by: Aakash Patel Advisor: Dr. Chung –E Wang
Agenda • Abbreviations • Introduction & Motivation • Objective of the Project • Scope of the Project • Methodology • References • Questions?
Abbreviations • CM: Cable Modem • CMTS: Cable Modem Termination System • DOCSIS: Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification • TFTP: Trivial File Transfer Protocol • TOD: Time of Day
Introduction & Motivation • Motivation and force behind the project. • This project provides an overview into the lifecycle of a cable modem. • Cable modem uses DOCSIS protocol to transmit & receive packets from CMTS. • This project discusses the methods of communication between cable modem and CMTS.
Objective of the Project • In this project I will be working/developing on Initial Ranging Phase & Transfer Operational Parameters phases of the cable modem. • After successfully developing both the phases, I will be able to provide insights in both the phases and will be able to understand the role of DOCSIS v3.0 in modern CMs.
Scope of the Project • Scope: • This project is limited to few important stages within the life cycle of a cable modem. • Five Stages in CM’s Initialization Sequence. • Initial Ranging Phase • IP Connectivity Phase • TOD Phase • Transfer Operational Parameters Phase • Registration Phase
Architecture of Simulator System • This slide will give the overview of simulator system.
Methodology & Achievements • Review the literature on DOCSIS Mulpi v3.0. • Phase 1: • Development of Initial Ranging Phase. • Outcome & Achievement: Cable modem & CMTS will be able to communication with each other. • Phase 2: • Development of the TFTP Phase. • Outcome & Achievement: Connectivity between cable modem and TFTP server. After the completion of this phase cable modem will go in ONLINE state and will be ready to transmit and receive data packets.
