CARE in Somalia CARE has been providing development and life saving assistance across all regions of Somalia since 1981. • CARE works in: • South-Central Somalia • Somaliland, a self-declared state • Puntland an autonomous sub-national state administration Emergency Response- food security, water and sanitation, and nutrition; also protection support to IDPs, help them be safe and establish relationships with the communities hosting them. Urban Youth The urban youth program-response to the massive migration to towns over the last six years due to recurring drought. Focuses on supporting job creation and other livelihood opportunities for poor urban youth through vocational training, small business development, microfinance, and youth development activities in WASH.: • Vocational Education and Training for Accelerated Promotion of Employment, Somalia Youth Leadership Initiative (SYLI), Developing Vocational Training for the Informal Economy in Somalia (DVTIES),Diriswanaag(good neighborliness, hospitality)
Rural Women • The Rural Women program targeted at poor rural women with particular focus on women headed households or households where men no longer play a major economic role and women are the main breadwinners. • Projects within the Rural Women Program include: • Towards Self Reliance -Village Savings and Loan Associations • Strengthening Capacity of Teacher Training in Primary and Secondary Schools- female teachers • XoojintaNabada (Strengthening Peace)- reducing conflict through improved natural resource management, better leadership structures and involvement of women in local leadership
Rural Women • Towards Sustainable Pastoralism in Sool and Sanaag • Basic Water and Sanitation for the MDGs • HaraadReeb (Quenching Thirst): water and sanitation project aimed at improving the supply of safe water • Foundation for Peace project (FFP)- designed to tackle some of the key underlying causes that inhibit human security and sustainable development in Afghanistan, Somalia and Yemen
Consortiums • HogaaniyoNabad : Strengthening Governance and Peacebuildingin Somalia (International Rescue Committee , UNICEF. Danish Refugee Council)- strengthened capacity of village institutions to manage equitable local development and conflicts; and enhanced citizen engagement in equitable local development and conflict management • Enhancing resilience in Somalia (Action Contre la Faim, Adventist Development and Relief Agency, CooperazioneInternazionale, Danish Refugee Council, Oxfam, World Vision)- to build household and community resilience to drought and other related risks in Somalia
