Winter at Valley Forge Winter 1777-1778 – Washington’s army can’t get into Philadelphia. Keeps his army at Valley Forge during the winter. Here he loses 2,500 men to disease and cold. Still he holds the army together and continues to train them up to take the fight to the British in the south.
Battle of Yorktown Oct. 1781 – In Yorktown, VA Washington’s army surrounds the main British army and the French Navy keeps them from sailing away. This was the last major battle of the Revolution and forces Britain to surrender to the American colonists.
Battle of Saratoga Oct. 1777 – American forces harass and attack British army in northern New York colony. When British army gets to Saratoga NY they must surrender their army to the Americans. Another huge victory because the French saw that the American army could beat the British, so they became an ally.
