  2. Beginning • Wars are scary—going to one • December 26,1776—morning • On boat with General George Washington

  3. Hessians • Plan is to capture Hessians; by surprise • Trenton, New Jersey • Hope Ana-belle and Mama are all right

  4. Crossing the Delaware River • Can see the Hessians tents • Afraid the British will win war • So close; could swim from boat to shore • Not very important

  5. Arrived there • Getting out quick and quiet • Sees a Hessian

  6. Battle is over • 4 of our men hurt—killed or wounded 106 Hessians • We won; wonder what mama & Ana are going to think • Wonder what the lobster backs are going to think

  7. Leaving battle • Getting on boats • Have no idea what we are going to do with Hessians • Guesses only General Washington knows • Delaware harder to go across maybe because tired

  8. What he is going to tell • Explain what he saw and heard • About Delaware river and General Washington • How proud Papa would be/proud of himself
