SESAR-WPE • Research Topics: • Legal aspects of paradigm shift • Towards higher levels of automation in ATM • Mastering complex systems safely • Economics and performance • Coord: Eurocontrol Exp. • Centre in Brétigny-sur-Orge, France • Structured in: • Networks • Projects http://www.sesarju.eu/programme/workpackages/wpe
SESAR ComplexWorld Network It is one of the networks of WPE, other partners: ComplexWorld-IFISC contract 10-220210-C4 (2011-2014): 120,000 € Starting date: July 2011 Complex systems theory + ATM = Applications http://www.complexworld.eu
Delay propagation Our objective is to develop a realistic model of delay propagation in the airport network. For this, we need access to real data on air transport and delays. We are using now American data but will have soon data from Eurocontrol. This model will allow for protocol and situation testing before new policies and practices are really implemented.
Delay propagation Distribution of flight delays in US airports in 2010
Delay propagation The average delay is related to the size of the nodes Delays in US airports in Sep 5 2010 (no network-wide effect) Delays in US airports in March 12 2010 (network-wide/systemic risk)
