IT) • Motivation to Learn • Communication • Initiative & Enterprise • Decision Making Theseskillsare equally relevant to young people progressing to further study, working for themselves or going directly into employment

  4. The LCVP helps Students • take responsibility for their own learning • become more innovative and enterprising • communicate their thoughts and ideas effectively • investigate and plan their career options

  6. ACTIVE LEARNING The LCVP fosters active learning. All activities which the students partake in go through the following steps: • PLANNING - Setting Aims and Objectives • EXPERIENCE - The Activity Itself • DE-BRIEFING - Reflecting on the Experience • EVALUATION - Drawing Conclusions • REPORTING – Drawing up report

  7. LCVP Structure 2 Link Modules Vocational Subject 2 Vocational Subject 1 Irish Modern European Language Other LC Subjects Most LCVP Students take seven Leaving Certificate Subjects plus the Link Modules

  8. Vocational Subject Groupings Pupils in St.Marys must take a modern language (French or German) plus any ONE of the following subject combinations in order to qualify for LCVP • Home Economics and Biology • Home Economics and Art • Art and Business • Art and Accounting

  9. Vocational Subject Groupings • Music and Business • Music and Accounting • Accounting and Business • Home Economics and Art • Home Economics and Biology • Any two of Biology/Physics/Chemistry

  10. LINK MODULES Students who qualify for LCVP then study TWO link modules which are: • PREPARATION FOR THE WORLD OF WORK • ENTERPRISE EDUCATION

  11. Preparation for the World of Work Purpose • To provide thestudent with a general knowledge of the world of work • To provide the skills to findemployment • To get experience of the real world of work

  12. PREPARATION FOR THE WORLD OF WORK • UNIT 1 Introduction to Working Life • UNIT 2 Job Seeking Skills • UNIT 3 Career Investigation • UNIT 4 Work Placement

  13. Enterprise Education Purpose • To encourage students to identify enterprising skills • To profile an entrepreneur • To investigate business and community enterprises • To set up their own enterprise projects

  14. ENTERPRISE EDUCATION • UNIT 1 - Enterprise Skills • UNIT 2 - Local Business Enterprises • UNIT 3 - Local Voluntary Organisations/Community Enterprises • UNIT 4 - An Enterprise Activity

  16. LCVP IN ST. MARYS • NORMAL LEAVING CERT (7 subjects) • PLUS TWO LINK MODULES e.g. Irish, English, Maths, French, Business, Home Economics, Geography, plus LCVP Link Modules - Preparation for the World of Work and Enterprise Education.

  24. HOW LCVP CAN COUNT FOR POINTS TOTAL POINTS EXCLUDING LCVP = 345 TOTAL POINTS INCLUDING LCVP = 375

  25. Results in St. Marys • Most students in this school achieve at least a Merit in the final LCVP result. This means that nearly all students who take LCVP are guaranteed at least 50 points on the CAO system. • Those who make an extra effort achieve distinctions
