How To Wean Toddler Off a Dummy / Pacifier Hello In this video we will be discussing how to wean your toddler off a Dummy/Pacifier. As a mother of three children I know how tough it can be when it’s time to get rid of their Dummy. Here are a few tips we used to wean them off in a relatively painless manner!! We all know that the Dummy has proved to be a soothing comfort for babies from birth. Especially when breastfeeding wasn't possible for some. So, when should your child stop using their Dummy and what is the best way to do it successfully and sensitively? Knowing when the Time is Right Some experts say that Dummies can help prevent sudden infant death syndrome, So it is important to allow your baby to use one if they like until they are 6 months old when the risk diminishes. You also shouldn't try to wean your little one off their Dummies when major life events such as starting nursery occur as they may need extra comfort. Try and Do by the Age of Two This isn’t an exact science as all children are different. However experts recommend that you wean them off at around two years old. This is due to potential dental problems. Medical specialists state that Dummies could cause dental problems after the age of 2. Before the age of 2 your baby won't suffer any long-term damage to their teeth. Any problems that do occur will Self correct within six months of weaning off the Dummy. Language development considerations after the age of 12 months Some experts say that the frequent use of Dummies during the daytime after the age of 12 months can interfere with the child's language development skills. https://youtu.be/fRTLmxOLJLQ
