Number of Courses • Choose a minimum of 3 courses per semester • Allowed to take only 2 courses per semester if already a graduate • Indicate if only returning for one semester • Sem 1 only or Sem 2 only
UNIVERSITY • Ontario University Application Centre • www.electronicinfo.ca • To apply for university in Ontario • Minimum of 6 grade12U/M courses, including ENG4U1 • Many programs have specific prerequisites Upgrades??? • Depends on the university or college • Some take the higher mark and some average the two
COLLEGE • Ontario College Application Service • www.ontariocolleges.ca • To apply for college in Ontario • Graduate with OSSD, complete most of your courses at the senior (Grade 11 or 12) level • Many programs have specific prerequisites • Some schools award additional marks for courses taken at the 12U level • Some programs you are better off to take the prerequisites at the college level and get higher marks. eg. Dental hygiene.
U AND C OPTIONS • Transfer Programs • Many universities will offer credit for courses taken within college program to decrease the amount of time needed to earn degree • Joint Programs • Many programs offered between a college and university (e.g. “Mo-Mac” BScN program) • Mohawk College Arts and Science 2 years plus Laurier 2 years = B.A.

eLEARNING • Students with more than 20 credits can take an eLearning course IN COMBINATION with their course load at Westdale • If you are interested in taking an eLearning course you MUST make an appointment with your counsellor in Student Services

SHSM PROGRAMS • Fifth year to finish SHSM • Earn certifications and trainings within program • Arts and Culture • 8 credit package including 4 Arts courses • Construction • 10 credit package including 4 Construction courses
Dual Credit Programs Gain credit for college and/or apprenticeship courses while still enrolled in high school Mohawk Bridge – 2 courses at Westdale plus 2 courses at Mohawk: Active Citizenship and Society, Technology and Social Issues
Dual Credit Programs Mohawk Tech Bridge – 2 courses at Westdale plus 2 courses at Mohawk: Computer Aided Design and Mathematics Building Careers: General Carpenter Level 1 OYAP. May earn direct entry into term 2 of Mohawk’s Construction Engineering Technician program
Experiential Learning School Based Co-op – half day (2 credits) or full day (4 credits) placement Requires an application and interview Placements in all areas Some are competitive Highly beneficial – experience, networking, resume building Applications in Student Services
System School to Work programs “Caring For Our Future” – Healthcare Support Services Four credit program Classroom at Chedoke hospital Includes co-op placements in Hamilton Health Sciences hospitals Can lead to entry level employment with HHS as porters, environmental aides
System School to Work Programs Lime Ridge Mall Co-op program 4 credit program Classroom in K-Lite FM building Co-op placements at Lime Ridge Mall Can lead direct to employment
System School to Work Program “Building Careers from the Ground Up” Residential construction program 6 credits all day during semester one Senior Construction Technology Co-op placement building a house
Army Reserve Co-op program Four credit program Semester two only Highly competitive Semester at James St. N. Armoury Complete Basic Military Qualification Students are paid for the military training portion of the program May lead to student or summer employment
Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program Train as a registered apprentice Over 150 apprentice trades in Ontario Transition from school to work May earn a wage in addition to credits Excellent for those who like to learn by doing Leads to employment
Accelerated OYAP In partnership with Mohawk College Automotive Service, ECE, Child & Youth Worker, Hairstyling, Construction craft and cement finisher, Cook, General Carpenter Attend Mohawk 2 days a week plus Co-op placement for 3 days a week
