  5. COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN CODIS AND SOLVE • The document compiled by SITA outlines two prospective technologies (CODIS and SOLVE) that are available to fulfil the gap requirements for the NFDD for the biology and laboratory processes. • The investigation by SITA was based on documentation provided by SAPS TMS and desk research. No live testing of the CODIS and/or Solve products were conducted. From this investigation and limited access to these products, no distinct or clear direction could be provided as to which product are recommended. • The costing was also based on estimations. • The recommendation by SITA: • A full live investigation of the Solve and CODIS products to determine viability • A full investigation of the interface and integration requirements to SAPS systems • The outcomes of these investigations and research will be the exposition of a complete application, systems, technical and integration architecture • The client is of the opinion that CODIS should be recommended. • The Division: TMS recommend CODIS because it has been tried and tested. The estimated cost amounts to basically the same. CODIS has proven to work successfully in various countries and agencies. The Division: TMS would however visit some of the sites where CODIS were implemented in order to access the amount of customization required.
