A Typical Freshman Schedule FR LA 9 ALG 1 BIO HEALTH/PE ELECTIVE ELECTIVE BEAR TIME • Students receive 6 & 12-week Progress Reports. • Report cards are issued two times a year: At the end of first semester in December and at the end of second semester in May. • Each class is worth .5 credits per semester. • Semester grades are not combined. • By the end of 9th grade students should • have 6 credits. • PROMOTION CRITERIA • 10th Grade= 5 credits • 11th Grade = 11 credits • 12th Grade = 17 credits
Graduation Requirements ***Two foreign language credits are required to attend a 4 year college in Georgia but is not required for graduation.
Graduation Testing Requirements • Students must pass the Science and Social Studies Gateway exams • Students must take EOC final exams in the courses listed below. The finals are weighted as 20% of their final grade. • 9th Grade Literature • Biology • Algebra I • Geometry • 11th Grade Literature • US History • Economics
Supporting students academically • Check student’s eClass course pages/Parent Portal daily • Making up missing assignments when absent • Encourage student self advocacy • Review MVHS Tutoring Cheat Sheet and encourage your student to schedule sessions with their teachers • Communicate with teachers as needed • Parent/teacher conference protocol: Step 1: The student will try to resolve the concern by communicating with the teacher. If the concern is not resolved continue to step 2. Step 2: The student will communicate the concern with their parent/guardian at which time the parent/guardian must contact the teacher to try and resolve the concern. If the concern is not resolved continue to step 3. Step 3: The parent/guardian will contact the subject area department chair to request a parent/teacher conference. If the concern is not resolved continue to step 4. Step 4: The parent/guardian contact the student’s assistant principal to request a meeting with the student’s assistant principal, department chair, student’s teacher, parent, and student.
Course recovery • GA Credit Recovery • Students are eligible for credit recovery if a class is failed with a grade of 60-69 • Free during Bear Time for first time in class, $26 re-enrollment fee per class • Christmas Credit Recovery Bootcamp, December 20-22, $50, register MPP • NCAA DOES NOT RECOGNIZE CREDIT RECOVERY • Gwinnett Online Campus • Classes offered each semester and over the summer • $250/.5 credit, Register on MPP • Summer School • Locations and dates, TBD • $250/.5 credit, Register on MPP • GA Virtual School • Classes offered each semester and over the summer • $250/.5 credit, $500/AB 1 credit classes, Register on gavirtualschool.org • Phoenix High School • Mini semesters, Jan.-March, March-May • After school 3:40-5:45 or 6:05-8:10, $150/.5 credit
