CAMP KAITAWA THIS IS MY CAMP EXPERIENCE!
WOW! It was a warm, sunny morning and the year 5s were buzzing with excitement as they set off into the distance, travelling to Camp Kaitawa! Muddy slides, humungous mountains to climb, big Papakirito falls (bridal falls) and huge amounts of caves (Onepoto caves). What a fun and exhausting week we had!
MONDAY We arrived at our campsite and set up our cabins. My cabin was shared with Conner T, Lachlan G and Mr Gouder. Our cabin’s name was TUI. Once we had all set up we went for a walk. The walk was small. I was asking for a challenge the whole way, until we got to the pipeline and I was testing myself. When we got to the top I was proud of myself because I had conquered my fear of heights.
TUESDAY The big day hadfinally come. We had to do the 7.30 hr tramp up the treacherous NGAMOKO. It was a hard going tramp in the groups behind us. There were twisted ankles and sprained knees and people slipping and sliding. When we got to the Rata tree I only saw half of it until I got closer. I was AMAZED. How could a tree grow so big?
WEDNESDAY Once we had come back to the cars from a short walk we went off onto another track and it was so beautiful. The walk was worth it. The Papakirito falls were so gorgeous. I’m so jealous of the people who live round there. They are so lucky but then again I live in a country with the most beautiful views. So I’m just as lucky as them.
THURSDAY I had been waiting for Thursday ever since I heard that we were going caving. So I got geared up. I was so excited but at the same time I was scared because there were tomos everywhere. Some got to the depth of 300m down. I was so energized and my adrenalin was so high. As soon as we had got out of the 3hr walk we played rugby at the nearest park. It was parents vs children. Of course the children won because they’re awesome. The only lady was … Mrs Baudinet, she was AWESOME!
FRIDAY It was pack up day … then my worst enemy returned. His name was Mr Cleanup. Everyone was stuffing things left right and centre. My cabin was the fastest getting done. Once we got into the car we headed off. In my car was Mrs Gardiner, Ben G, Dexter, Isaac and me. In Wairoa, Kieron, Byron and me played games with Mr Viljoen and other kids. We had lots of fun. We got back to school and you could see I was dizzy, tired, carsick and sad. I was also happy because I was home safe and sound. I would beg to go back because it was phenomenal!
