  2. What is the subjunctive? • A mood– how you mean something to come across • It is used when you are not sure of the outcome of the situation, you have no control over it, and it is totally subjective (NOT objective)

  3. Requirements for subjunctive • Two different subjects • A connector word (we have learned “QUE”) • Two different verbs – one in the present indicative and one in the present subjunctive S1V1queS2V2 Mimadreesperaqueyorecibabuenasnotas. My mom hopes that Ireceivegood grades.

  4. We already learned that you should use the subjunctive when you want, desire, or recommend that somebody else do something, because you have no control over whether that actually happens or not.

Subjuntivocon verbos de emoción • You can also use the subjunctive with verbs of emotion: • I’m happy that you have the job. • It’s a pity that she doesn’t pay attention to you. • We are sorry that he doesn’t know the address. • In this case, the subjunctive is used because the emphasis is on the emotion itself—it’s not objective but rather subjective.
