MSHSAA,NCAA/NAIA Athletic Eligibility Highschoolcourseguide.com • To be eligible for MSHSAA sanctioned activities, you must be enrolled in 6 full FOR CREDIT classes • Study hall, aiding, online credit recovery class, etc, do not count • And you must have passed 6 classes (earned 3.0 credits) the previous semester. • If you plan to compete in college athletics, you must be certified by the eligibility center. • NCAA – www.eligibilitycenter.org • NAIA – www.playNAIA.org • Page 7-8 in Course Description Book

  7. 8th semester release / Work ReleaseSENIORS ONLY (but prepare early) Highschoolcourseguide.com • 8th semester release • Complete all graduation requirements by December • Work 30 hours a week or enroll in 8 college hours • (Part time option available) • Supervised Marketing/Business Experience • Enroll in College Marketing/Advanced Marketing course • OR Enroll in Business Principles (Dual Credit Option) • Year-long • Be gone half days working (and earning credit) and at BSHS the other half day. • You MUST pass the course, to get the elective credit for work experience • Page 24 of Course Description Book

Advanced Class Requirements • Check the course description book for prerequisites. • If it requires teacher approval, seek it. • AP Classes • No minimum GPA or qualifying ACT • $94 for AP exam • UMKC and MSU Dual Credit • 3.0 GPA OR • 21 Composite ACT • AGAIN, TRY HARD ON YOUR ACT! Take it early, and often! • See page 29 of course book for class fees • With a Dual Credit Class, there are very specific deadlines to add and drop these classes. Don’t sign up if you don’t plan to see it through to the end. • You will NOT be allowed to drop a yearlong dual credit class at semester.   10. When/how can I take the ACT? Highschoolcourseguide.com • Sign up on the ACT website. • ACT.ORG • You will create your own account. • It takes about 45 minutes the 1st time you sign up to create your full account. • Keep your ACT ID handy for future use! • Have a photo of yourself ready to upload. • Cost $46.00 • If you are on free/reduced lunch, you can get an ACT fee waiver from the 300 office.

What are the prereqs? What college offers the dual credit course? Etc) are found on following pages, in the descriptions. • Begins on page 32.

  17. Overview of Major Changes Highschoolcourseguide.com • PE • The WHOLE PE department has changed! • All new classes! All new descriptions! • Talk to a PE teacher to see what class best suits your needs and interests • Math • College Stats is now offered year long! (Easier choice ) • College Pre Calc replaces PreCalc (honor point now offered each semester) • College Calc I (must take trig beforehand!) • AP Seminar • New AP course offering • Starting AP Capstone Program • Students interested in research – perhaps considering a PhD someday.

Summer School Opportunities • When you are enrolling for next year, you will also have an opportunity to sign up for summer school. • Retake core classes previously failed. • Take enrichment classes to “get ahead” for next year (ie - personal finance) • Dual Credit Communications • Career Focused Summer School Programs (CLASSES STILL PENDING) • Zoology I and II (dual credit available, Missouri State) • Dental Experience • Health Care Careers (dual credit available, Cleveland College) • Pre Law (dual credit available, UMKC) • Register with your counselor during enrollment. Many are first-come-first-served. • Applications are usually available early March.

Enrollment starts FEBRUARY 4! • Beginning February 4, you will enroll one-on-one with your counselor • Have your enrollment sheet/PPS fully complete • Get initials from your core teachers indicating approval of next level courses • Double-check that you’re choosing classes to meet graduation requirements • Plan time in your schedule for CTC, Work Release, Hospitality, or any other courses that will take a chunk of time. • Make sure the alternates you choose are classes you are actually ok with taking. • Plan for summer school classes. • Get a parent signature! • If the paperwork is not complete when your class enrolls in the library, you will not get your first choice courses.
