  2. Greek/Latin Roots • Most English words are created from Greek or Latin root words • Knowing the roots will help you break down and figure out what the big words mean. I’m not as smart as I sound; I just know Greek!

  3. Definitions • Prefix: part of the word that is at the beginning • Root: holds the bulk of the meaning in the word, and can be at the beginning, middle, or end • Suffix: part of the word that is at the end

  4. Work Smart, Not Hard ... errr Work Smart & Hard. • We are learning only the highest frequency roots, prefixes, and suffixes. • These make up 97% of all words...

  6. roots • aud: hear • mis: send • astro: star • ped: foot

  7. suffixes • -ly: how, when, where, under what condition • -er/-or: one who • -er: comparative adjective

  8. Brainstorm words that include either the given prefix, root word, or suffix with a partner.
