What is Credit Recovery? • Online program for DPS high school students designed for helping re-coup credits for failing a course • It is self-paced • It is self-managed • Has quizzes, discussions, journals, study sheets all designed to help on unit quizzes and unit tests
What does it Cost??? • Each course is $50.00 • GEAR UP students can have course fee waived • Payment is made to Ms. Trammel our school treasurer and receipt is then given to Credit Recovery teachers for enrollment in course • Course fee is forfeited if student fails to complete course per contract agreement
Spring Semester Dates • 2nd semester (Spring) semester begins January 26, 2010 • Semester ends May 21, 2010 • Seniors must complete any credit recovery courses by May 1, 2010 for school to certify students for graduation • Mid-term date is March 26, 2010 • Students must be 50% complete in order to continue in course
Credit Recovery Contract: Attendance • Most important information regarding students concerns is…. The time commitment! • Students must attend Credit Recovery Monday through Thursday at the beginning of advisory at 1:55pm until 3:30pm • Students can opt to stay Monday through Thursday until 4:30pm • Students are still required to attend Advisory on Fridays to work on course
Credit Recovery Contract: Attendance Cont. • Students who arrive after 2:05pm will not be permitted and will be considered an absence • Attendance will be taken daily • Students who exceed 5 unexcused absences will forfeit course payment and will be withdrawn from course and therefore fail it • Excused absences are for students who are ill or have appointments scheduled by parents and have called the attendance line to excuse absence
Am I passing my course? • Students are expected to pass the course with 70% or better • This includes all journal, discussion, and practice items • If a quiz or unit test is not passed with an 80% or better they are required to see Credit Recovery Instructors to move forward in course
What if I am Struggling? • Tutoring is available with a school teacher licensed in that content area • Students who fail a course 3 times will be asked to attend live tutoring • Tutoring will be scheduled during Credit Recovery time Mondays through Thursdays from 2:30-4:30pm if necessary • Students must meet during their pre-arranged scheduled tutoring time or it is considered an unexcused absence
What if I finish early? • If you complete your course before the term ends… you are done! • If you need to take additional Credit Recovery courses you can enroll in them concurrently as long as there is space available in the class
